Comment on Pass 2: Introduction to Storytelling by marisad

Frankie,
With my own experience in workplace training environments, I've been curious about your project since you mentioned focusing on incorporating that world into this storytelling assignment.

After reading your proposal, I am excited to see this project develop into the media phases.

Pass 1 didn't seem to have quite the same focus as the proposal mentioned. I didn't see vignettes so much as one story. However, I did like the story. The relationship between the men is very well drawn, and the description of their differences sets the tone. I am confused a bit, since I thought the story would tell a learning tale about realignment, and so far, it seems like it's only the beginning...

Oh, and isn't the Crystal City Marriott lovely? I got to stay in Concierge level there a couple years ago. ;) It does have some nice views.

On to Pass 2...

Ohh...I see Pass 2 is continuing the story, rather than retelling. I get it now!

Some interesting choices for images. As I know that the story is changing as I read it, it's hard to make any recommendations for further passes, since I don't know where you're going with it yet. I'm curious what you're planning to do to incorporate audio/video, and eventually interaction.

I think you should try to make the images really have more impact on the story. Currently, they seem to be support, but everything about them is still mentioned/explained in the text itself. You may find yourself able to cut more text and do more with the story in more images.

Nice work! Look forward to the next pass(es)!

Hi Frankie -- thanks for the great introduction. For a first time blogger, you're doing fantastic! I look forward to hearing about how your narrative ideas translate (or don't translate) to some of your instructional design tasks at work.

I also think this is a great idea. From the business world, you might also find some inspiration or ideas from the work of Steve Denning or David Snowden. I look forward to seeing what you come up with for these vignettes. Your project is approved!

Hi Frankie,
Thanks for the comment on my blog. Yes, it definitely will be challenging, on many different levels. Yet, at the same time, it has opened virtually a pandora's box of emotions and a desire to learn so much more about these stories of family members, some of whom I never had the opportunity to meet in person. I have been to several holocaust museums, including Yad Vashem in Israel, the Florida Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg, the USHMM in Washington, D.C., among others... But although the stories are always memorable, they've not been personal. Now there are some that are.

Btw, you need to get your blog set up with normal comments instead of RSS ones, so I can put links in my comments. :)

Here is a link to the Yad Vashem site--this was truly the most amazing experience to visit this museum: http://www.yadvashem.org/

Have you decided on a story yet?

Hey Frankie,

Great blog!! Wanted to let you know that I will be TDY this week. I might send you an email to get the scoop regarding Assignment 2. I was able to get the second book shipped to me but not the first one. I'm hoping I can complete the assignment without the book, although it should be delivered by the time I get back. Have a good Navy week!
